DV lottery is annually conducted by the US Goverment to issue 50,000 PR visas to people from countries that are sending less number of immigrants to the USA in the last five years.
The Lottery is a free to enter for eligible people and are strongly adviced not to participate if they are not eligible by country wise or education wise. The winners are not given visas directly, but they are eligible to apply for a PR visa. So after winning the lottery the winner will be provided guidlines to apply for the visa, where the winner must face the normal immigrant visa application process along with paying a non-refundable visa processing fee and the Diversity processing fee which will be around US$755 for single applicant or each for a married applicant.
The DV 2008 winners were notified by postal mail along with further instructions between May- July 2007. And in the forms, there was clearly adviced not to continue the process if the winner is not qualified for it. Also there were a colume to be filled with name and address of a supporter in USA for the winner to avoid from being a public burden.
The Visa processing started in October 2007 in all the US Embassies and will continue till August 2008 and no visas will be issued or change of status will not be allowed after midnight 30th September 2008 for the DV2008 program.
Selected winners will be informed by mail (second mail) 4-6 weeks before the interview date at the nearest embassy. There he/she will pay the necewssary visa fees and will face the interview. At the interview they will check their education, marriage, and medical certificates, sponsor’s details and if the winner was involved in criminal prosecution. The immigration officer will decide wether to issue a visa or not. If visa is not issued the visa processing fee will not be returned.
At the Embassies they will check education certificates and marriage certificates very well as there are many cases in the past years was found with fake certificates and forged marriages, soley for the immigration purpose.
So the winners can wait till August 2008 to get their second letter, in the mean time they can prepare themself by getting the original certificate for the education from the Department of education/ministry. Do the necessary certificates certified English translation if they in other languages.
Also winners can check the visa bulletin to check, when their case number is coming in the processing period. If alll the available 50,000 visas are issued, then all the remaining appoinments will be cancelled.

hi,i have a question for my brother,i am here in usa and he got DV lottery and he did not get it out on time from the mail box,because he is an engineer working in rural place for the goverment in ethiopia,and he comes from there to the city once in a while to check his mail.The DV lottery got in his mail in march 27 ,2008 and he got it in July and sent it for you in july 28,so will he get the second answer from you? .please let me know.thanks

dear sir, i received my second letter from KCC and i was interviewed on 7th August. but according to KCC i should have done my medicals before the interview BUT my local embassy advice me to wait after the Consular Officer have interviewed me. so i waited and after the interview i have ask to go for my medicals and to submit it on 10th September. May you please help answering this question. I have a brother in Africa who won DV 2008 and has received his second letter and preparing for interview. The person who promised to be his sponsor seems to back out and he is nervously desperate to know if he is allowed to get a different individual to sponsor him.
I guess the sponsor’s name has been filled on the forms my brother received from KCC when he was notified he won DV 2008. Now his worry is, should he bring only sponsorship documents from that individual whose name was filled or it doesn’t matter even if he brings documents from a different individual.
On a related topic, do you have any idea some volunteers who are interested to sponsor? Some website or agency to ask.

First i would like to thanks for your great patient to help individuals who needs help from you. I am from Africa, east Africa and i was selected in Dv 2009. But in the form, WHICH was sent from KCC, I filled the address of my sponsor in the place provided for petitioner and his address, but now he sent sponsorship leter( I 134) by the name of his wife not of his name, he said i am very bussy so i decided my wife to become a sponsor. Does the exchange of name in the sponsorship leter and in the form of kcc, affects my probability of success in the interview? If your answer becomes yeah, shall i inform to the KCC now( my Case number 00008—)? In general what is your sugession in this?

Pls. advise me on followings,
I and my wife got the visa under DV 2008. My wife is expecting the child in OCt. But the fiscal year for DV 2008 finishes in Sept.30. Hence my child will not get the visa to travel with us. It is unable to travel now on medical advise. Please let me know any possibilities to take our baby to US with us.
Initially we wish to visit US only for one week. Is this enough to under go the formalities. Will the local embassy advise us the procedure in US.(I know I have to renew the card once a year)

first i would like to thanks for your cooperation. I am from Africa and i won in the dv 2009, with case number 00008—. i married after the application of DV entry in 2007. I sent copy of marriage certificate of church which was given for us, one copy of marriage certificate of the municipality of mine only but not of my spouse.
Does the copy of marriage certificate of my spouse needs to send to the KCC?
If not done this, can this affect my selection in KCC and in the Consular interview for VIsa?

I am a winner of dv 2009 not 2008 and I need some information about the second letter because I did’t receive it yet , when I read in the information that I received in the first letter I find that they said that between october 1. 2008 and september 1. 2009 the diversity visas will become available when selectees rand numbers are available for their region and between october 1. 2008 and september 30. 2009 selectees are scheduled for the interveiws which mean that people whom reveived the second letters now are the winners of dv 2008 not 2009 , please inform me about that

Good day sirs.I don’t really know the latest date of visa issueing since it ends on the 30th and there are still lot of people with pending cases who have been ask to come on Tuesday for their visa issueing decision.In our own local embassy, interviews ends on the 22th that is on monday.So please when is the latest date of visa issueing?help
