Washington — Entrants for the United States Diversity Visa Lottery (DV-2010) are encouraged to enter early in the two-month registration period because excessive demand might slow down the system as the deadline nears, according to the State Department. The Diversity Visa Lottery registration period will start at noon (Eastern Daylight Time) on October 2 until noon Eastern Standard Time on December 1, 2008, the State Department announced. For the first time, entrants for the United States Diversity Visa 2010 Lottery will be able to check the status of their entry online starting July 1, 2009 and find out whether their entries were selected or not selected in the lottery. Successful Diversity Visa Lottery entrants will continue to receive notification letters by mail.

What is new in the DV2010 Instructions?
1.Russia and Kosovo are accepted in the eligible country list.

4.A successfully registered entry will result in the display of a confirmation screen containing your name and a unique confirmation number. You may print this confirmation screen for your records using the print function of your web browser or save it in your computer. Starting July 1, 2009, you will be able to check the status of your entry by returning to the website and entering your unique confirmation number and personal information to find whether you are selected or not as a winner for the DV 2010 lottery.

Here is an announcement made to the Egyptians by the US Consular office recently.

Cairo, September 10, 2008
The U.S. Department of State has registered and notified the winners of the 2009 diversity visa lottery. 4,831 Egyptian applicants have been registered and notified and may now make an application for an immigrant visa. Those selected will need to act on their immigrant visa applications quickly. Applicants should follow the instructions in their notification letter and must fully complete the information requested. During the visa interview, principal applicants must provide proof of a high school education or its equivalent, or show two years of work experience in an occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience within the past five years.

The annual diversity lottery offers 50,000 permanent resident visas to persons from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States, including Egypt. Applicants registered for the 2009 diversity visa program were selected at random from over 9.1 million qualified entries. The visas have been apportioned among six geographic regions with a maximum of 7% or 3,500 visas available to any one country, including Egypt. Since it is likely that some of the first 3,500 Egyptians registered will not pursue their cases to visa issuance, the larger registration figure of 4,831 should ensure that all 3,500 DV-2009 numbers available to Egypt will be used during 2009. Only participants in the DV-2009 program who were selected were notified by mail. Those who have not received notification were not selected. They may try for the upcoming DV-2010 lottery if they wish. The application period for the DV-2010 lottery will begin on October 2, 2008 and results will be announced in the fall of 2009.

DV 2009 visa lottery interview shedule dates for selected Turkey applicants have been published in the internet for the month of October 2008. All the published case numbers are published induvidually with the interview date.Nearly 90 selected DV Lottery visa applicants will face the interview as per the announcement.
For the DV 2008 only one visa interview is sheduled for Turkey and there are no more interviews avaialable for the DV 2008 program.

DV 2010 lottery eligible country list is available from the US State department. There are not many changes in the eligible country list as of dv 2009. Russia and Kosovo born people are eligible to participate in the diversity visa program DV-2010 lottery, if they meet the education/work requirements which can be found in the instruction. The dv 2010 instruction is still not available in the internet as per 1/08/2008.It is expected to be released in September 2009. DIVERSITY IMMIGRANT (DV) CATEGORY

Section 203(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act provides a maximum of up to 55,000 immigrant visas each fiscal year to permit immigration opportunities for persons from countries other than the principal sources of current immigration to the United States. The Nicaraguan and Central American Relief Act (NACARA) passed by Congress in November 1997 stipulates that beginning with DV-99, and for as long as necessary, up to 5,000 of the 55,000 annually-allocated diversity visas will be made available for use under the NACARA program. This reduction has resulted in the DV-2009 annual limit being reduced to 50,000. DV visas are divided among six geographic regions. No one country can receive more than seven percent of the available diversity visas in any one year.

For October, immigrant numbers in the DV category are available to qualified DV-2009 applicants chargeable to all regions/eligible countries as follows. When an allocation cut-off number is shown, visas are available only for applicants with DV regional lottery rank numbers BELOW the specified allocation cut-off number:

Entitlement to immigrant status in the DV category lasts only through the end of the fiscal (visa) year for which the applicant is selected in the lottery. The year of entitlement for all applicants registered for the DV-2009 program ends as of September 30, 2009. DV visas may not be issued to DV-2009 applicants after that date. Similarly, spouses and children accompanying or following to join DV-2009 principals are only entitled to derivative DV status until September 30, 2009. DV visa availability through the very end of FY-2009 cannot be taken for granted. Numbers could be exhausted prior to September 30.

DV 2010 eligible country name list will be available with the DV 2010 instruction which is expected to be announced very soon. Once it is available, we will publish it here.The State department will calculate it in a unique way to decide which countries can participate and which countries can’t participate. According to the DV Lottery rules, people born in those countries which had sent more than 50,000 people legally to USA within the last 5 years can’t participate in the lottery. Those people can qualify through an eligible country born spouse or parents.
If a person become as a winner and get the visa claiming the spouse’s country for eligibility, the person must immigrate with the Spouse to the USA.
